Jason Sears was elected the new vice president of public relations for the national committee of the Public Relations Student Society of America at the 2009 National Assembly. Sears is the first student of the Texas PRSSA chapter to be elected to the position.
"We're all really proud and honored," said Dave Junker, faculty advisor of the Alan Scott Chapter of the PRSSA at the University of Texas at Austin. "It's hard to think of a more capable, deserving student, or a nicer guy."
Sears currently serves as vice president of public relations for the Alan Scott Chapter of PRSSA. During his term, Jason has built Web sites for the Texas chapter and Texas Tower PR, a student-run public relations firm affiliated with PRSSA.
Sears has also managed the chapter's social media channels, which keep the 140 members informed about news and events within the chapter.
Sears says his current job has prepared him well for his new one.
"I am very excited to be an officer of one of the largest PRSSA chapters and look forward to this most prestigious position," he said.
In his new position, Jason will be responsible for maintaining clear communications among the 10,000 PRSSA members nation-wide and between the national PRSSA and PRSA offices. This will include writing press releases for all PRSSA Chapters, disseminating bi-weekly newsletter updates and organizing the Synergetic Outreach program at this year's national conference in San Diego.
