What an amazing place for study and play! |
Austin is one of the most amazing cities in the United States. Set within the beautiful Texas hill country, Austin has the unique combination of a high-tech and hippy atmosphere. For those of you not from around here, don’t let the Texas stereotypes fool you. No one rides a horse to school. And Midnight Rodeo doesn’t involve any type of cattle. You’re more likely to see a cross-dressing former candidate for Mayor on Sixth Street than a cowboy with a lasso.
Known for its live music scene, Austin offers a mix of activities from the fine arts (ballet, art exhibits, history museum) to being one with nature (hiking, biking, botanical gardens) to the slightly quirky (Spam-a-rama, Art Car Parade, Christmas Lights on 37th St). Austin takes pride in its unique character. The city slogan is popularly displayed on bumpers and t-shirts around town stating simply, “Keep Austin Weird.”
The next two years of grad school will go by fast, so don’t let them pass without experiencing this incredible city and seeing what makes Austin such an amazing place to work, live, and play. We hope by the time you graduate, you’ll have picked up on the very useful contraction “y’all” and taken a piece of Texas with you to your illustrious new job.
