Admissions Information

The deadline for Fall 2010 is December 15, 2009. We admit new students for the Fall semesters only. Please refer to the Graduate Brochure (Acrobat PDF format), page 12, for detailed information on admission procedures. The Department of Advertising strongly encourages applicants to fill out an Online Graduate Application when applying to the program.

Degrees Offered

The University of Texas Department of Advertising offers a number of options for graduate study. There are four basic degrees:

M.A. in Advertising without Thesis/Professional Report

  • Hours Required: 39*
  • No Thesis/PR Degree Plan

M.A. in Advertising with Thesis

  • Hours Required: 36*
  • Thesis Degree Plan

M.A. in Advertising with Professional Report

  • Hours Required: 33*
  • PR Degree Plan

Ph.D. in Advertising

  • Hours Required: 70 - 75*

In addition, the College of Communication offers several dual-degree programs. One of the most popular of these, for students of advertising, is:

Master of Arts and Master of Business Administration

  • Hours Required: 72*

*These figures are minimums, and do not include any prerequisites you might need to take.

Other dual degree programs are offered between the College of Communication and:

  • The Institute for Latin American Studies,
  • The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs,
  • The Center for Middle Eastern Studies, and
  • Post-Soviet and Eastern European Studies
