Beginning with the 2009-2010 application, students in the College of Communication can apply for all Communication scholarships through one application. By completing this single application, students will be considered for scholarships from both the Office of Student Affairs and their department. As we get closer to the application period we will post specific application information, so check this website for more details.

Morris Hite/Tracy Locke Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Advertising
Eligibility: Undergraduate and/or graduate advertising or PR major
Stipend: $2,000

Ray Hall Advertising Fellowship
Eligibility: Graduate student in advertising major with talent or interest in either advertising or advertising media
Stipend: $3,000

Robert M. Gray Scholarship Fund
Eligibility: Graduate advertising students
Stipend: $ 1,000

Forbes Media Scholarships
Eligibility: Student must be a master's student in advertising with a concentration in media who demonstrates financial need, career commitment, leadership skills, and strategic thinking. Must be a citizen or permanent residents of the U.S.
Stipend: $5,000

John Mack Carter Scholarship
Eligibility: Women pursing a master's degree in advertising with a concentration in media who demonstrate financial need, career commitment, leadership skills, and strategic thinking. Must be citizens or permanent residents of the U. S.
Stipend: $5,000

Ray Hall Advertising Fellowship
Eligibility: Graduate student in advertising major with talent or interest in either advertising or advertising media
Stipend: $3,000

Sam W. Papert, Jr. Endowed Scholarship in Advertising
Eligibility: Advertising major in media sales
Stipend: $1,000

Jesse H. Jones Fellowship
Eligibility: Currently enrolled or incoming graduate students in College of
Communication. Selection criteria include research productivity supported by evidence of published articles and papers delivered at conferences of national communication associations, letters of recommendation, and a strong academic record at the graduate level. Financial need is also considered.

Stipend: $6,000 (9 months)

Ralph E. Frede Public Relations Scholarship
Eligibility: student with a high degree of interest in a career in public relations. Graduate students must have at last 3.5 GPA

Roy Crane Award in the Arts
Eligibility: Students who demonstrates unique, creative effort in the performing, literary and visual arts. An undergraduate or graduate student from any major area of study may compete for the award. The committee, which selects the winner, will give no weight to any entrant's grade point average or other academic achievement. The entrant's work may be compared with similar forms of creativity, the award committee singles out only one area of the arts for each year's competition. For 2004, the visual arts will be considered for the award.

University Continuing Fellowship
These awards are made to students who are currently enrolled in a U.T. graduate program. Applications materials are submitted to Department Graduate Advisers who then submit nominations to the Graduate School. Faculty review committees that evaluate the applications emphasize accomplishments since entering Graduate School.
Eligibility: Currently enrolled at U.T. Awards are based on major accomplishments since entering Graduate School, a well defined program of research, strong personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Financial need will be considered.
Application Deadline: January 23rd.

Applicants for this award should NOT submit application materials directly to the Office of Graduate Studies. All materials should be submitted to the Departmental Graduate Office. One set of application materials will be used for application to all of the fellowship listed on above OGS website. Application forms are available here.

The following scholarships may or may not be available to graduate students in any particular year.

AAUW Fellowships for Women
Eligibility: Any female, who has been formally admitted to doctoral candidacy at the University of Texas at Austin and whose cumulative graduate school grade point average is 3.5 or better, is eligible. All fields of study are eligible. Both USA citizens and non-citizens are eligible. Selection will be based on need, academic record, submitted reference letters, and the applicant's statement.

Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowships
Eligibility: Candidate must demonstrate a need for financial assistance and must e enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States. The candidate must have received a baccalaureate degree and have an outstanding undergraduate record. The candidate must be a citizen of the United States of America.
Application Deadline: December 13, 2004
Stipend: $18,000 plus tuition for nine months

Gates Millennium Scholarship
Eligibility: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific and Hispanic high school, undergraduate or graduate students. Citizens or permanent residents of the US. Minimum 3.30 GPA. Demonstrated financial need and leadership. Nomination by teachers, principals, professors, deans, program directors, or other individuals from educational organizations acting in their own capacities

Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Eligibility: Be of Hispanic background (one parent fully Hispanic or each parent half Hispanic). Be a U>S. citizen or legal permanent resident (with permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551). Have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (3.7 on a 5.0) scale). Be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at an accredited U.S. college or university full-time. Undergraduate, Graduate and community college Students are eligible.

Luce Scholars
Eligibility: Nominees must be American citizens who have not reached their 30th birthday by September 1st of the year they enter the program. Nominees must have earned at least a bachelor's degree or reasonably expect to receive that degree prior to September 1st of the year they enter the program. Nominees must be in good physical and emotional health. Nominees need not presently be on campus. They may be selected from the class of graduating seniors at the nominating institution, from ranks of recent alumni, from graduate or professional students, from recent recipients of advanced or professional degrees at the institution, or from junior faculty.

Ornelas Associates Minority Scholarship
Eligibility: Student must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree and be a qualified American citizen who has proven Latino heritage with at least one grandparent of Latino heritage. Student must be a AAAA MAIP (Multicultural Advertising Intern Program) Hispanic Intern in good standing. An essay of 250-500 words on the following topic "As a Latino I value ganas (passion), adelante (progress), Latino pride and diversity by…" must be submitted.

Peter Agris Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Students of Greek ancestry who are pursuing either graduate or undergraduate studies in journalism or communications, who are active in their church and community, maintain at least a 3.0 average, and show some financial need.

Robert Bosch German Fellowship
Eligibility: Applicants should be between the ages of 23-24 and possess a graduate degree and /or two years of professional experience in one of the following fields; Business Administration, Economics, Journalism/Mass Communications, Law, Political Science, or Public Affairs/Public Policy. Candidates without a graduate degree are nevertheless encouraged to apply, provided they possess extensive professional experience in one of the fields mentioned above. German language competence is required at the start of the program. If needed, intensive German training will be provided prior to the start of the program.

Eligibility: A New American is an individual who (1) is a resident alien; i.e, holds a Green Card or, (2) has been naturalized as a U.S. citizen or (3) is the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens.

Stipend: $20,000 annually for maintenance and half tuition.

Young Women's Alliance Foundation Scholarship
Eligibility: Young Women who are U.S. citizens under the age of 40. Applicants should be juniors, seniors, or graduate students attending a college in a Central Texas. Recipients are chosen based on financial need, commitment to community service, and academic achievement.

Stipend: $2,500

Nationally Competitive

Students do not apply directly for the scholarships listed below. Instead, they must be nominated by U.T. Preliminary applications must be submitted to Professor Larry Carver, Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, early in the Fall semester. In addition to completing the scholarship application, students are interviewed by a faculty panel prior to nomination. Jacob K. Javits Fellowship
Eligibility: Undergraduate students about to enter graduate school and graduate students who have not yet completed their first year of graduate study and who intend to pursue a doctoral or master's degree, if the master's degree is the terminal or highest degree awarded in an approved field. Student must be plan to enroll in graduate school in the fall of year received and must be U.S. citizen.

Marshall Scholarship
Eligibility: Open only to United States citizens who (by the time they take up their Scholarship) hold a first degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States with a minimum GPA of 3.7. To qualify for awards tenable from October 2004, candidates must have graduated from their undergraduate college or university after April 2001.
