Austin Bone & Joint Clinic, Marketing Intern

Fall Semester – August 26, 2009 – December 4, 2009

Spring Semester – January 19, 2010 – May 7, 2010

In order to learn more about Austin Bone & Joint Clinic, each intern should be involved in training to include (but not limited to):

Signing confidentiality statement

Visiting some sites where physicians practice

Working with designated staff to learn about highlights of practice

Observing 2-3 medical procedures

Discussing databases and physician offices in territories that intern will be visiting

Accompanying marketing consultant during visits to offices to learn more about collecting information about how ABJ is caring for their patients or how can ABJ can improve on that care.

Responsibilities of each intern to include:

Visiting offices of physicians in territories (target offices will be assigned for each intern to visit) – 65% of time

Reporting changes in territories (ie: physicians moved, have a new physician in their practice, updating contact information, etc.) – 5% of time

Providing weekly summary of visits (use ABJ report to update manager about who they visited and the outcome) – 10 % of time

Reviewing patient satisfaction surveys to be used in promoting the practice – 10% of time

Helping identify source of new patients (use marketing tool to learn how patient was referred to office – ie: primary care physicians, website, insurance company, friend, etc.) – 5% of time

Assisting with special projects – (new marketing materials, etc.) 5% of time

Each intern will be involved in a review at the end of the semester.

The candidate will be expected to:

Provide a status report of visits to referring physician offices.

Have a final interview with Austin Bone and Joint Manager and UT Professor.

Write a summary of the internship. Include highlights, areas that the intern found challenging and any recommendations for improvement.
