Skills:

Social Media Marketing. That is to say, this will be a team effort of PR students and Journalism students. The product is several Blog-to-book blogs on Diet, Job Search, Automobile Ownership and Cloud Computing. The team will jointly develop a profile of target customers. Journalism students will focus on developing attractive, quality content. PR students will focus on using the latest Social Media marketing best practices to build a reader base for the content. Our number one requirement is enthusiasm and commitment. Obviously, previous coursework specifically on social media marketing would be helpful, but not mandatory. HTML skills are also helpful (because so many of the tools like Wordpress depend on them) but are also not mandatory.

Duties:

1) Study/Read up on the current and latest thinking about Social Media Marketing best practices. Notably:
- The New Rules of Marketing & PR: How to... by David Meerman Scott (Aug 30, 2011)
- The Zen of Social Media Marketing: An Easier Way...2012 Edition by Shama Kabani and Chris Brogan (Mar 6, 2012)
(Expectation is that the reading is done as part of the internship hours in the office. We will NOT be giving ""homework"" outside of internship hours)
2) Work with journalism team and management to develop a set of detailed customer profiles for each of the blogs.
3) Work with journalism team and management to identify a set of specific content items to be developed (mostly by the journalism team)
4) Develop a set of detailed plan of attack to get maximum gain in readership for the blogs and for the specific content items with the minimum expenditure of advertising dollars.
5) Develop a measurement strategy (tools, procedures, frequency of capture, etc..) to measure PR effectiveness.
6) Execute the plan for the remainder of the term.
7) Prepare a written report at the end of the term explaining what was tried, what measurements were taken, how well different tactics and
approaches worked, and what steps might be taken going forward to further improve results.
