Birds is a barbershop/salon concept created in Austin, Texas, with four locations in the central part of the city. Birds strives to serve a mid-priced niche, concerned with quality and cool, but not willing to pay too much for it. Covered in publications nationwide from The New York Times to the Wall Street Journal for its innovative, in-house marketing campaigns, Birds Barbershop is in the business of delivering the best possible walk-in haircuts for the money. Great prices, free Lone Star beer, old school video games and an only-in-Austin soundtrack complete the picture.
Internship Duties
Attend bi-weekly marketing meetings and contribute to action plan
Help create and execute marketing programs, especially those aimed at the college market
Curate shops' soundtrack, helping to maintain the Birds playlist
Weekly "rounds" to all four local Birds locations -- S. Congress, S. Lamar, E. 6th and Burnet Rd. (gas money included) to maintain promotional materials, collect marketing materials.
Occasional office errands and print shop pick-ups
Regular dispersal of marketing materials to restaurants, coffee shops, bars
Help maintain the Birds quarterly marketing schedule
Correspondence and maintenance of Birds' charitable commitments (i.e. organizing free haircuts for charitable organizations' silent auctions)
In addition to helping maintain Birds presence locally, student interns will also be expected to execute one big idea from concept through execution aimed at UT students
Skills Required
Marketing and strong organizational skills; graphic design skills a plus but not required
