Internship Duties
Marketing Database Internship: North Austin – Customer Segmentation and List Building
Customer Segmentation:
Customer segmentation is used when customers with identical service needs are divided into groups based on similarities they have. The further division into smaller groups helps to organize information for further analyzing. Using segmentation allows Sage to target groups effectively, and allocate marketing resources to best effect. It helps to target customer groups that might be profitable and growing and be of interest to Sage.
In the marketing internship role at Sage you will help in the following areas:
• Deciding what data will be collected and how it will be gathered;
• Collecting data and integrating data from various sources;
• Developing methods of data analysis for segmentation; establishing effective communication among relevant business units about the segmentation; and
• Implementing applications to deal effectively with the data and respond to the information it provides.
List Building:
List building is the process of taking information that has been researched or given and building it into lists. These lists are made so that the information can be organized and easily viewed by anyone.
The marketing internship role includes good online research skills to find the necessary information if it is not given to you and the ability of list building that information into excel spreadsheets. These lists lead to new business and growth. The lists help in many ways, not just for marketing, but for advertising for the company, as well. The information from the lists, such as people addresses can be used to send out Sage informational cards and other things, which brings in new clients. It puts our name out there!
