Description

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the leader in setting the agenda for type 1 diabetes research worldwide, and is the world’s largest charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research. The mission of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is to find a cure for juvenile diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

JDRF Austin is a local chapter affiliate of JDRF that focuses primarily on fund raising efforts and special events to raise funds for research.

 

Internship Duties

The Communications & Outreach intern will play an integral part in expanding and maintaining all communication with JDRF families, volunteers and donors. Specific projects may include creating and sending out quarterly E-newsletters, updating website content and stories, creating JDRF Austin literature, press releases, updating the contact database and office assistance as necessary. The intern’s responsibilities may also include assisting the Outreach Manager in developing and securing locations and dates for JDRF Outreach events, such as Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes and Type1Now Conference as well as prospect grant research. Hours are flexible but may include a minimal amount of evening and/or weekend opportunities. We ask that all interns be available to work the morning and day of Saturday, May 14, 2011.

 

Skills Required

Applicants must have excellent communication and writing skills, strong organizational and time management skills and an ability to manage multiple projects. Required computer skills include Microsoft Office applications, including Publisher and familiarity with Adobe Photoshop. In addition to being enrolled in a current undergraduate program with a higher education institution, the ideal applicant for this internship should have an interest in working in a nonprofit or health related organization.
