In the next 20 years the senior population is projected to double in size. One in eight Americans are currently 65 years or older. At some point in most senior’s lives, there comes a time when the emotional, physical and financial upkeep of a home gets to be too much to handle. While simplifying their life by downsizing to a smaller home may be the ideal situation, anyone who has been through the process can tell you that simplifying can be, well, rather complicated. Taking that first step and making the decision to downsize can be a very difficult one. While my real estate team facilitates home sales and moves of all sizes and for all situations and family types, our service is primarily designed to handle the specialized concerns and needs of transitioning seniors.
Emotions get in the way and fear often sets in. Seniors often have to deal with the prospect of leaving the family home, of losing their independence, and sorting through all the stuff they have accumulated over the course of their lifetime. This is where our expertise and experience in dealing with these types of moves comes in. We clearly understand the challenges facing today’s seniors. I have several years of hands-on experience working with retirement communities at the independent, assisted living and nursing care levels. It has always been my desire to help seniors after experiencing first-hand the challenges of helping my own mother relocate into an assisted living environment.
For me, helping clients make moves that will ultimately improve the quality of their lives is what my business is all about. I do not make decisions for my clients; instead, I provide support in helping them think through the issues as they make their own decisions. We also educate clients on the steps necessary to get their own home ready for sale and ultimately negotiate and coordinate the sale of their residence. I want our senior clients to have as little stress as possible throughout the entire sale of their home and moving process.
