Description
It is the mission of the Austin Children's Museum to create innovative learning experiences for children and families that equip and inspire the next generation of creative problem solvers.
Internship Duties
In this position the intern will become familiar with the Museum's signature approach and will help communicate this approach to the public through regular contributions to the Museum's blog. The intern will research and write up DIY projects, science experiments, and at-home investigations for kids and families. The intern may also help Museum staff prepare for special events, and will attend these events in order to cover them for the blog.
This internship position will provide the student with practical experience working in the museum setting. They will have the opportunity to work with a well-respected educational establishment and learn the behind the scenes workings of a successful children's museum. The internship will also allow the student to learn how new technologies are being used in informal education. Essential Job Functions:
Contribute posts to ACM's new blog and keep it up to date
Take photos and video of museum programs to enhance blog posts
Research educational projects and activities to include on the blog
Identify relevant educational websites and contribute to an ongoing list
Select one blog entry per month to include in Austin's parenting magazine and several to include in the museum newsletter
Update and keep the ACM Flickr site, Vimeo site and Photo Library organized
Skills Required
Commitment to and enthusiasm for the mission of the Austin Children's Museum.
Confidence working with children of all race, gender and ability.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Confidence in working independently as well as with a team.
Competency in multitasking and time management.
Positive attitude and lots of energy.
Must have a reliable means of transportation.
Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Photography and/or graphic design experience a plus.
