Internship Duties
Search Engine Marketing Intern
The Memorial Hermann Online Advertising team is looking for a talented and energetic Search Engine Marketing Intern. This is a great chance to work on the client side of search and online advertising, and learn how an in-house team works. You will work with the team that manages online customer acquisition programs including search, display, email and social media advertising. This is a nonpaid internship. Only serious candidates need apply.
The ideal search engine marketing (SEM) intern will be responsible for driving qualified paid and unpaid search traffic to Memorial Hermann’s portfolio of websites. This will include accelerating natural search rankings through a variety of search engine optimization (SEO) tactics and planning, launching and optimizing paid search (PPC) campaigns. This candidate will take an active role with on-site content and technical enhancements, link building initiatives and paid search campaign setup and optimization. This position reports to the Senior Internet Marketing Representative.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform SEO opportunity analysis, keyword research, metadata implementation and on-site content creation
• Launch, monitor, track and optimize Memorial Hermann paid and organic search campaigns using industry tools like SEOmoz, Google Analytics, Google AdWords and MSN AdCenter
• Research, execute and measure link building campaigns including internal links, external links and directory listings
• Provide detailed analysis of web user behavior
• Stay informed of new tools, trends, algorithms and best practices in the search industry
• Any other duties to support to the digital advertising team

• Self-starter/motivator who enjoys a challenge and relishes even small wins
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to excel in collaborative cross-functional teams, including web development, creative services, advertising and marketing
• Highly dependable and able to multi-task
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with search engines, website architecture and basic online principles; some search experience is preferred but not required
• Experience with online advertising tools like Google Analytics, Google AdWords, MSN AdCenter, Facebook Advertising or Yahoo Overture is preferred
• Previous experience or knowledge of content management systems (CMS) a plus
• Intern candidates must also be enrolled as students at an accredited university or college
