Patient Privacy Rights (PPR) was established in 2005 as a non-profit organization that works to ensure patients have control over their medical information. Activities include advocating for strong patient privacy protections in both state and federal legislation; providing patient education and support regarding patients' medical privacy rights; and organizing and hosting the annual International Summit on Health Privacy, which is the only conference dedicated solely to addressing patient privacy issues and policies. We regularly communicate with large corporations, the White House, and national press. We are a small team, but we think big; we are seeking interns who will do the same as they jump in and run with our quickly growing organization!

Skills:

Basic requirements: We are willing to work with any level college student, but we do require that you have completed at least one year of college and are in good academic standing with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Majors which would best fit the internship include: Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs/Public Policy, Information Technology, and Health Care Professions/Services, but we are open to others who may be interested in non-profit or advocacy work. Students must be willing to work for at least one semester.Necessary skills:-Good communication skills-Proficiency with MS Office and Wordpress-Good writing skills-Knowledge of social media websites (knowledge of HTML would be very helpful but is not required).

After the resume is reviewed by our directors, the student will be asked to come in for a final interview.

Duties

 

"Event Planning and Promotion Intern
•        Help organize the annual Health Privacy Summit through interacting with vendors, sponsors, participants, volunteers and other organizations that work with PPR 
•        Help create and execute a plan to promote the Health Privacy Summit to various stakeholders
•        Provide on-site assistance for events as needed
 
Fundraising Intern
•        Assist with the development of a general fundraising campaign set to begin January 2013
•        Assist with the development and implementation of a fundraising plan to raise money specifically for the 2013 Health Privacy Summit
 
Health Policy Intern
•        Help review health legislation related to PPR’s mission and policy priorities
•        Conduct necessary research to gather information that is relevant to PPR’s mission
•        Contribute to reports that address state, federal, or global health privacy issues.
•        Maintain working knowledge of current health privacy issues in the news and other media
 
Communications/New Media/Marketing Intern
•        Help write and distribute press releases
•        Compile press kits 
•        Work with Director of Communications on tasks as needed
•        Assist with the creation marketing materials
•        Help develop branding opportunities and brand awareness campaigns for PPR
•        Work with PPR team to create and complete Health Privacy Summit promotional materials
•        Edit and upload photo and video content
•        Write HTML for PPR website
•        Help manage PPR’s Twitter, Facebook, and Blog accounts
 
Organizational Support Intern 
•        Provide administrative support by answering phones and corresponding via phone or email with constituents requesting information from PPR.
•        Participate in team meetings and maintain notes of relevant information and tasks discussed
•        Help organize and maintain information related to Health Privacy Summit planning and logistics
•        Work in PPR’s database to manage records, event registration lists, and contact forms 
•        Assist in updating, managing, and publishing content on PPR’s website."
