For many TexasMedia students, internships offer a peek into the "real world" of media and provide them with valuable, hands-on experiences that go beyond the books and classrooms. Additionally, internships provide the chance to get a foot-in-the-door with a potential employer. Each semester finds students completing internships all over the country, both in agencies and on the client-side. In the past, TexasMedia students have interned with the following businesses:
• GSD&M
• SicolaMartin
• Media Edge
• Starcom
• T:M
• NFusion
• Tribal
• Millward Brown IntelliQuest
• Carat USA
• Dell
Students are encouraged to complete their media experience with a hands-on media internship. To do so, students will need to find their own internship from the UT Department of Advertising’s or CCS’s postings, tap the Texas Media network or use other individual efforts. Once an internship is secured, students will register for ADV350 which is the department’s approved internship course. Students will meet all guidelines to received credit for ADV350. Upon completion, the department will require students to write a detailed paper over their experience. In order to secure credit towards Texas Media, students should provide a copy of this paper to the Director of Texas Media.
For an internship to count towards Texas Media, a minimum of 50% of the courses required hours must be spent on media specific responsibilities. Students unsure if their internship experience would be considered valid for Texas Media credit should visit with the Director of Texas Media prior to beginning the internship.
