10 Year Texas Media Reunion

Initially postponed due to hurricane Ike, the 10-year anniversary of Texas Media reunion commenced at its rescheduled date Saturday, September 20th in the Texas Union Ballroom. Current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and their friends and family met from 3:00-6:00 pm to celebrate the accomplishments and growth of the Texas Media program. In its decade of existence, the Texas Media sequence has grown from a once informal series of classes, to the now esteemed program, graduating over 700 students.

Organized and hosted by senior lecturers within the Texas Media program in the Texas Advertising and Public Relations department, Lisa Dobias and Gene Kincaid, the event brought graduates from the program's beginning in 1998 together with current students to connect, admire photographs through the years, and reflect on their Texas Media experience. Over the three hour period, approximately 60 people came through the Ballroom doors to share stories, network, and even taste a piece of Texas sized lemon cake which sat at the entrance of the ballroom. Kincaid noted, "This is the largest gathering of alumni and current students we've ever had. I'm happy we've got both disciplines [Media and Creative] covered."

The program's growth corresponds directly with the media industry's expansion within the realm of media planning, buying, sales, research, and new media development. Lisa Dobias was pleased at the event and noted that "Texas Media has established a program like no other. To have this network of media professionals in the business provides us with an almost endless supply of resources and support."
