Advertising Grad Student Lands Branding Internship at NPR

Stacey Trunnell, graduate student in advertising at the University of Texas at Austin, was thrilled to accept an internship at National Public Radio in Washington, D.C. for its Creative Services department for 10 weeks during summer 2009. Traveling 1,500 miles from Austin and back to the city she was born in, working for NPR has proven a challenging and rewarding experience from the very beginning.

Besides waking up daily at 5:30 a.m. and withstanding a horribly long commute on the chaotic Metro, Stacey has enjoyed an unequivocal experience as Marketing and Branding Intern at NPR. Duties have ranged from simple proofing of promotional materials, to video shoots praising the work of Diane Rehm, to brainstorming ideas for potential campaigns.

Stacey has had the pleasure of shaking hands with some of the most recognizable correspondents-Scott Simon, Cokie Roberts, Nina Totenberg, etc. -- at NPR, but the absolute best part of the internship is that it does not demand her to sit back and simply watch what others are doing; it only asks that she bring ideas, an open mind, and a productive attitude to work everyday.

Stacey stays busy everyday at NPR and gets to listen to WAMU (the Washington public radio station) all day long. She even contributes to Intern Edition, web-based radio and multimedia project from National Public Radio. She is on the communications team, working on two stories, and writing in the intern blog as often as possible.
