Dr. John Murphy Wins Inaugural Ross Education Award
Almost 40 years after University of Texas advertising Professor Dr. John Murphy had Billy Ross as a professor at Texas Tech University, Murphy's work and dedication to the advancement of the advertising education were rewarded. The American Academy of Advertising (AAA) awarded Murphy the inaugural Billy I. Ross Advertising Education Award on March 22 at the organization's annual conference in Jacksonville, Florida.
Presented by the AAA, an organization of advertising scholars and professionals with an interest in advertising and advertising education, the award is in recognition of proposed or completed research or projects. The primary purpose of the award is to encourage or reward specific work that advances the field of advertising education. This was the first year the award has been presented, and it is only given when it is appropriate to recognize an individual who has significantly contributed to the field.
The American Academy of Advertising, organized in 1958 and of which Ross was a founding member, has a membership of advertising scholars and professionals with an interest in advertising and advertising education. The Academy fosters research which is relevant to the field and provides a forum for the exchange of ideas among its academic and professional members. Through the Journal of Advertising and the annual conference Proceedings, the Academy disseminates research findings and scholarly contributions to advertising education and the profession. Today, the Academy has over 600 members.
