Faculty and Grad Students Present Research at AEJMC Conference

Sara Kamal, Dr. Jerome Williams, and Shu Chuan Chu

A UT Advertising professor and two graduate students presented at the Annual AEJMC Midwinter Conference which was held February 26-27 at the Reynolds School of Journalism, University of Nevada, Reno.

Dr. Jerome Williams was a member of panel on "Re-imaging the Means to Provide Students with the Tools of Information and Education: A Dialogue about Proposed Methods and Outcomes that Can Impact Communities." where he presented his research on "Obesity and Public Health: Bringing Theory and Practice Together in the Classroom". During the panel Dr. Williams discussed and emphasized the importance of providing the means to provide students with the tools of information and education. The panel focused on the role of generating dialogue and a programmatic public scholarship research agenda.

Graduate students Shu Chuan Chu and Sara Kamal participated in the Minority and Communications division of AEJMC Midwinter Conference. They presented a content analysis study on food advertising and minority portrayals and characterization, a study that was developed and completed in Dr. Wei-Na Lee's Content Analysis course in Fall 2006. Their paper received very positive reviews from other presenters at the conference as well as the session moderator Dr. Lillie Fears.
