Jerome Williams Nominated for Food Marketing to Children Committee

Jerome Williams

Dr. Jerome Williams was recently nominated to The Institute of Medicine's provisional committee for the study of Food Marketing and the Diets of Children and Youth. Dr. Williams is currently the F.J. Heyne Centennial Professor in communication, while also holding a position within the Center for African and African-American Studies.

Professor Williams' research interests account for a few qualities that make him an important addition to the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) committee. The IOM committee's purpose is to undertake a comprehensive study of the science-based effects of food marketing on the diets and health of children and youth in the United States. The IOM hopes that the successful completion of this study will ultimately help to 'develop a framework and indicators to guide the creation of effective marketing strategies fostering healthy food choices among children and youth.
