More Texas Creative Awards

The end of the spring semester brings several Texas Creative students recognition for their conceptual ideas and innovative executions by national media and advertising associations.

Four students in the Texas Creative program have been named finalists in this year's One Show College Competition, an annual event organized by The One Club since 1975. The One Club is a non-profit organization that recognizes and promotes excellence in advertising. More than 550 print, design, and interactive media entries are submitted each year from around the world. The winners are selected by the One Show jury and prizes are awarded at the annual One Show Education Festival ceremony.

The client for this year's competition was Hybridcenter.org, a website that provides information to consumers about hybrid vehicle technology. The assignment was to create ads that draw attention to hybrid vehicles, and highlight the benefits of hybrid technology.

The Texas Creative finalists are Shaun Bruce and David Roth (print campaign), Chase Quarterman and Shannon Burke (print campaign), Cesar Torres (logo design), and Matt Goodman and John Rekoumis (TV spot). Less than 10% of the entries are selected as finalists, so this is quite an achievement.

In addition to this competition, Texas Creative students will be exhibiting again at The One Show gallery in New York in May. Selections from the show are currently displayed on the plasma screen on the 7th floor outside of the Department Office.

Texas Creative work is to be featured in the upcoming CMYK magazine, making this the third straight issue to showcase works by Texas Creative. This time it is a campaign for Quikrete Concrete by Maureen Bongiovanni and Chris Nguyen that graces the pages of CMYK. CMYK is a quarterly magazine that displays "pure, uncensored, jury selected ideas for an industry driven on inspiration. CMYK is an archive of top-level graduate work in advertising, design, photography and illustration. Every issue's portfolio encompasses nearly 100 selections of bona-fide "fresh" creative, chosen by leading professionals in all fields."

Finally two of the Texas Creative students are among the seven finalists for the DDB Minority Residency Program. The interviews are still in progress. Join us in wishing best of luck to Aldo Arias and Sharon Chow as they interview for the challenging one-year position.
