Student Spotlight -- Chelsea Lindstrom

Interviewed by Catherine Mitchell, Dasha Chichasova and Quendresa Baca

Public relations junior Chelsea Lindstrom was recently promoted to marketing liaison for Austin's Pizza, giving her the chance to apply her creativity and practice some of the skills she's learning in class.

What is your favorite thing about your internship with Austin's Pizza?

I definitely enjoy that the owner of Austin's Pizza has kind of given me the creative reigns. As the marketing liaison for my location, he lets me employ whichever marketing strategies I think will be effective. He really has put me In charge of our location and it's been a lot of fun coming up with different ways to promote our spot.

How do you work to promote Austin's Pizza around the city?

I do a few things. I host our listening parties at Waterloo Records every Tuesday when a new album comes out. While they play the album I pass out free pizza and talk to the customers about Austin's Pizza. It's a lot of fun meeting so many different people. Also, I encourage my peers and friends in Austin to come to events, such as live band karaoke every Wednesday.

Do you feel that your internship has better prepared you for facing the working world after graduation?

Well, it has definitely made me realize how important networking and keeping good work relationships can be to climb the ranks in your company. I knew I wanted to do more for Austin's Pizza than just being a cashier, but I knew I had to prove that I was the right person for the marketing position. Our live band karaoke night was the perfect opportunity to really let my personality show, and in the end I got to know my boss a lot better. I still joke that he just really liked my version of "Dirty Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap)" by AC/DC.
