Study Ranks UT Austin as Most Published Institution in Advertising Publications

A study entitled An Analysis of Contributors and Trends of the Proceedings of the Conference(s) of the American Academy of Advertising: 1983-2002 by Steven M. Edwards and Carrie La Ferle was recently presented at the 2003 American Academy of Advertising Conference held in Denver, Colorado on March 27-30. The manuscript examined the origins of published advertising research over the past 20 years. In this study, The University of Texas Department of Advertising is ranked first among other major universities for the quantity and quality of advertising research submitted. Other top programs were Michigan State, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee

When the authors examined individual contributions, three of the top five most published authors were UT Department of Advertising faculty members. John Leckenby was the only one to have more than 30 appearances with 37, and Patricia Stout was the second most published with 26 appearances. Wei-Na Lee also made the top of the list, being the fourth most published with 21 appearances.

John Leckenby also was noted as "the first author over the 20 years analyzed to have 10 appearances in a single five-year time period." Once the appearances had been adjusted (i.e. individual articles have more weight than collaborated articles), John Leckenby still ranked as number one in number of contributions, Patricia Stout ranked as fourth, Wei-Na Lee ranked as twelfth, and Jef Richards ranked as thirty-fourth.
