Terry Balagia, UT Alum Joins Fox Broadcasting
UT Department of Advertising Alumni Terry Balagia has been named senior VP of creative marketing for Fox Broadcasting Company. Mr. Balagia moved to Fox from D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles, where he was senior VP and executive creative director.
When asked about his greatest memories of the University of Texas and the UT advertising program in particular, Terry remembered the department staff as being "very cool" and for always making him "feel good." Terry also recalled the AAF's student competition, winning an advertising class competition and having his ad sent into a magazine for publication. These accomplishments served as the beginning of a brilliant advertising career.
Terry Balagia credits his success in the advertising industry to the knowledge he gained while enrolled in the UT Department of Advertising. After graduating from the program, Terry moved to New York where "the industry wasn't prepared for students with advertising knowledge." Terry said that he not only knew advertising terminology but also had a sound foundation of fundamental marketing theory and a working knowledge of the history of the advertising industry. According to Terry, the knowledge gave him a "real advantage."
In addition to the position at Fox, Terry Balagia is currently the President of the LA Creative Club, an association where Los Angeles-based advertising "creatives" are able to mingle, network, and connect. Aside from his work and accomplishments within the advertising industry, Terry has published a humor book, writes manuscripts, novels, and screenplays, and is a devout guitar player. According to Terry, it is "good to have outside interests" - Terry writes and plays guitars for the sake of expressing himself, not as a means of attaining arbitrary rewards. In life, rewards are secondary but self expression is first and foremost.
