Texas Advertising faculty member discusses future of advertising at Costa Rican university

Dr. Neal Burns discussed the future of advertising as a guest speaker at the University of Costa Rica School of Communications' 40th anniversary celebration Feb 14-18, 2008. He was invited out of recognition for his interdisciplinary work in marketing, advertising and other fields.

The celebration featured several international scholars, researchers, journalists, advertising practitioners and film producers who shared views about recent trends and the future of advertising and media.

He also presented some background and relevant insights and about the U.S. movie An Inconvenient Truth, which his son, Scott Burns, helped produce.

Dr. Burns is a professor in the University of Texas Advertising Department and teaches graduate courses in Account Planning, Advertising Agency Management and Advertising and Society. His research interests include the interactive advertising, the relationship of children and youth to advertising and new media, and in the growth and activity of ad agencies and programs focused on minority segments.

Before joining the UT faculty, he was most recently a senior partner and director of research and account planning at Carmichael Lynch, Inc. He has worked for clients such as Harley Davidson, Rollerblade, Gateway Computers and Motorola.
