Texas Advertising Grad Student Blogs for Ad Age

Never would Kelly Eidson have thought that an independent study course interviewing advertising practitioners and blogging about her findings would lead to being asked by the leading global source for advertising news, AdAge, to join a handle of prominent advertising students from around the country to write about their thoughts as they enter the job market. But, that's exactly what happened.

As a representative of "GenNext", Kelly blogs once a week about issues pertinent to advertising students as they enter the job market. Unlike the millions of obscure personal blogs on the web today, Kelly's (along with those of 6 other graduate students from various universities) can be read and commented on through the renowned AdAge website. The content of the blog comes from Kelly's personal experiences, industry knowledge, and the trials of her peers. "My goal for every post is that someone from the industry to be able to take away something from it. I want students to be able to relate, but it's tailored toward those within the industry," Kelly explained.

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kelly graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Advertising (media sequence) in May of 2007 and will graduate with a Masters degree in Advertising in May of 2009 with hopes to pursue a career in account planning. This summer, Kelly completed an 11 week internship with Neo@Ogilvy in New York City doing digital media planning, buying, and analysis. She particularly enjoyed the friendly culture of the agency and appreciated the chance to learn from weekly lunch workshops as a part of the agency's 'teaching hospital' internship mentality. Kelly joked, "If nothing else, I'm proud to know that I can survive the city."
