Texas Advertising Graduate Program Participates in the Second Annual Lone Star Graduate Diversity Colloquium

On March 30 and 31, 2007, President William Powers and the Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School, Victoria Rodriguez, hosted the Second Annual Lone Star Graduate Diversity Colloquium at The University of Texas at Austin. The Lone Star Graduate Diversity Colloquium is a collective effort by all colleges and universities in Texas to expand the pool of prospective graduate students that all graduate programs can recruit from. The primary purpose of this event is to encourage more under-represented minorities and women currently enrolled at Texas colleges and universities to stay in Texas to complete their graduate education.

The Graduate Program in Advertising participated in the event by sponsoring a table at the recruiting fair. A presentation by PHD students Amber Parker and Yuvay Meyers and Professor Jerome Williams on Diversity and Retention at Universities was also part of the program for faculty and staff. Ms. Virginia Hueske, the department's graduate coordinator worked behind the scenes to help make the Colloquium a success.

The Texas Advertising Graduate Program has been active in the recruitment of minority students in the program. With the help of funding from the Graduate School and programs such as the AAAAs Diversity programs, over one-fourth of the students enrolled in the graduate program were minority during Fall 2006.
