Texas Advertising Graduate Student Interns at LG Electronics

The Texas Advertising focus of theory x practice came into perspective for Hea-Seung Jeong this past summer. Her internship with LG Electronics helped her apply what she has learned in the classroom to real world situations. Below are her comments about her experience.

During this summer of 2007, I had a valuable experience working for the Brand Communication Team at LG Electronics as an intern. I was in charge of planning corporate brand advertising for LG Electronics and conducting consumer research for developing the advertising strategy. My project was of particular importance because LG Electronics had not run any corporate advertising for a year.

Throughout the internship, I had opportunities to apply my academic knowledge and research skills to my project. For example, the research skills that I gained through the Quantitative and Qualitative Research class helped me to design and implement an online survey and to interpret the results. In addition, the creative-thinking techniques that I learned from Creative Strategy class helped make my project original as well as innovative.

I was awarded the Best Presentation Award among the 21 global interns from 10 different countries at the last day of the internship when I delivered a presentation on my project outcome. By having the internship, I obtained not only real world experience but also became more confident in my academic ability to achieve my goals. Thanks to the internship, I believe I can go one step further to achieve a balance between theory and practice.
