Texas Advertising Places Highest Number of Students in MAIP
The Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP) is a highly-recognized summer internship program that aims to bring diversity into the advertising industry by placing, annually, over 100 multicultural students at advertising and public relations agencies across the nation.
"I love how they [MAIP] place you throughout the United States, because it widens your experience. I am excited and nervous to move to Minneapolis for the summer, but I know in the end, it is all worth it," said TexasMedia junior, Karla Campbell.
In the past years, UT students have consistently been selected to participate, but this year, an astounding number of UT students were MAIP finalists. Of the 148 finalists, 24 (16 percent) were UT students, making UT the school placing the highest number of students in the program.
The list of agencies these students will be interning at is impressive: Ogilvy, Universal McCann, Gotham, among many others. The top three agencies that selected a significant number of UT students are: Campbell Ewald (100 percent), DraftFCB (36 percent), and Starcom Worldwide (33 percent). Participating agencies selected UT students heavily for digital and interactive, copywriting, and media planning and buying internships, showing that UT Advertising has made a name for itself as a provider of talented, forward-thinkers.
These 24 students will begin their full-time, ten-week internship May 30th and attend the MAIP graduation in New York, August 7th, as a finale.
"This fellowship is great because it is less like an internship and more like a full-time job. Being there nine to five will give me a chance to fully experience working as a creative," said TexasCreative senior, Anu Rana.
MAIP 2008 Finalists include undergraduate and graduate students in account management, account planning, media planning and buying, copywriting, art direction, digital and interactive, and broadcast production: Krystha Barrera, Georgina Cameras, Karla Campbell, Larissa Cao, Christina Chan, Armando Crespo, Andrew Gay, Jenet Igwe, Anita Kalaswad, Jocelyn Lai, Elaine Lee, Rishi Magia, Candace Majedi, Claudia Negrete, Oniynechi Okoro, Rodolfo Pena, Genaro Perez, Celina Ramirez, Ruchy Sharda, Erin Tracey, Krystal Wright, Linda Yang, and Brian Yom.
