Texas Advertising Welcomes Dr. Gerri Henderson to the Faculty

Dr. Gerri Henderson joined the advertising faculty as associate professor in the fall of 2004. Dr. Henderson comes to Texas from Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management in Glendale, Arizona, where she taught classes in the summer of 2004. Last semester, she taught the undergraduate Integrated Communications Management course (ADV 370J) as well as the graduate Theories of Persuasion course (ADV 382J). She continues to teach Theories of Persuasion this semester, in addition to the graduate level Integrated Communications Management course (ADV 388K).

Dr. Henderson received her Ph.D. in Marketing at Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management, MBA in Marketing and Organizational Behavior also at Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management, and B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. As an assistant professor, Dr. Henderson has been on the faculty at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, Howard University's School of Business, Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, and the University of Virginia's Darden Graduate School. She is excited about the opportunity to work in what she describes as "the best advertising program in the country." When asked why she chose to come to the university, Dr. Henderson mentioned the department's unique ability to effectively blend both creative and managerial aspects of advertising as well as the opportunity to work with faculty members that share her research interests in ethnic marketing.

Dr. Henderson's primary areas of research include branding, marketplace diversity, urban marketing, and consumer networks. Her research has been published in several outlets including the Journal of Advertising, the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, International Journal of Research in Marketing, and the European Journal of Operational Research. Prior to pursuing her Ph.D., Dr. Henderson worked for several years at IBM in Relationship Marketing and briefly in Brand Management at Kraft Foods.
