Texas Advertising Welcomes Incoming Graduate Students

Texas Advertising held its annual new graduate student orientation and welcoming party on Monday, August 17th. At the orientation, new students were able to meet some of the advertising faculty members as well as their fellow new graduate students. Following the orientation everyone met up at Scholz Beer Garten. Established in 1866, the oldest business in Texas, Scholz has garnered the reputation as the last of the "great Biergartens" in Austin.  It is also a popular hangout prior to football games and only blocks from campus.  

At the welcoming party, students met some of the current advertising graduate students as well as enjoyed refreshments and conversation. The Advertising Graduate Council planned a week filled with events for the new students ranging from river tubing the Comal River to line a night at the Ritz Alamo Drafthouse.

This year's advertising graduate students come to Austin from all over the world. International students have joined the program from countries such as Canada, China, Guatemala, Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, India, and Mexico, Students from the US represent 17 states from Alabama to California to Florida to Washington. Eighty-two percent of the enrolled students are from the US.

Applications to the Graduate Program for Fall 2009 increased almost 30%. The average incoming class GPA is 3.55 with an average GRE score of 1130. Financial support for the 2009 class was $282,000.
