Texas Advertising Welcomes New Assistant Professor Ye Sun

Texas Advertising welcomes a new assistant professor to its faculty. Ye Sun received her B.A. from Peking University in China, majoring in English Language and Literature. She then went on to receive her Masters and Doctorate in Communication Science from University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Sun's current research focuses on message framing effect on communicative behaviors in the context of health communication. This research follows her interest in the social-psychological processes through which media messages influence individuals' various behavioral decisions. She is very accomplished; from being published in Journal of Communication, Communication Research, Media Psychology, Journal of Health Communication and International Journal of Public Opinion Research to having taught classes in persuasion and interpersonal communication at UW - Madison.

However, UT's reputation for excellence wooed her away from the Midwest. "UT is one of the best choices for anyone (myself included) who wants to pursue an active, rewarding academic career. The department of advertising, especially, has the best program nation-wide"said Sun. "I've greatly enjoyed my time here so far. Faculty and staff are very supportive and friendly. There couldn't be a better place for me to start and develop my career. If anything, I indeed feel lucky to be here as an assistant professor."

Besides the draw of the university, Austin has a strong appeal all its own. However, the busy schedule of moving and adjusting to her new surroundings leaves little time to enjoy all that Austin has to offer. "I haven't been here long enough to explore Austin a lot. Watching the bats over the bridge, mountain biking on Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail, and having Dim Sum in the restaurant 'Chinatown', are among the things I've done only once or twice but enjoyed a lot." A good bet on where to find her? "Cafe Medici has been my haunt- good coffee with a book is a lure that won't ever disappoint you."

Although she is only teaching one class this semester, Integrated Communication Management, she is delightfully surprised at the quality of her students. "I have to say my students have made (the class) much easier and more enjoyable than I imagined. They have been very active in class and have a lot of great ideas to share. It's been a great experience so far."
