Texas Creative Ex Finds Success at DDB NY

AnaLiza Alba attended UT both as an undergraduate and graduate student, graduating with her Masters in Advertising in 2004. She interned at Ogilvy & Mather through an internship program with American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) and then was hired at DDB New York as a copywriter.

Alba believes that she has worked with very talented creative directors and co-workers and that they have all been very nice, two traits that Bill Bernbach said were necessary to work at DDB.

Writing skills are what Alba has gained from the advertising program at UT, as well as the ability to come up with something better, a trait she has adopted in the workforce. She says that in school you get to write your own briefs and do whatever you want, whereas now, someone else gives her the strategy. There is more pressure in the real world, and Alba believes that ideas better be well thought-out before being presented, since you're asking clients to spend a lot of money on it.

Alba says advertising is not always as glamorous as people make it out to be, but the reward is getting to shoot a spot that you were a part of and seeing it get produced. It is definitely a fun field to get into, but "there are a lot of people ready to take your spot so you have to work hard."
