Texas Creative Students Win Awards at the One Show in New York

Students from the Texas Creative program were invited to participate in the One Show's Education Festival in New York City from May 16 - 18, 2006. The annual One Show Education Festival includes various events including a student exhibition, a portfolio review, and a client pitch competition. Every year hundreds of talented students in some of the best advertising programs from across the world compete for the coveted "pencil" awards, since past winners have gone on to work at some of the most esteemed creative shops across the globe.

Texas Creative had thirty different student advertising pieces on display at the One Show Gallery in New York from May 16 through the first of June as part of the festival. These pieces represented more than twenty Texas students in the exhibition. Texas Creative faculty member Sean Thompson commented that "as is the trend in the industry today, our work showcased a real breadth of integrated media choices and consumer contact points, from interactive anti-discrimination stickers, to snow globes for travel insurance, to the insides of premium ice cream pints for a dating service".

The University placed four finalist entries in this year's College Competition. The purpose of this year's competition was to create smart consumer messaging that would draw attention to the promise of hybrid vehicles and the benefits of that technology for hybridcenter.org, which is a website offering opinions and information about hybrid vehicles and clean energy. The finalist groups were:

John Rekoumis (art director) and Matt Goodman (copywriter) for their thirty second TV spot.

Shaun Bruce (art director) and Dave Roth (copywriter) for their print campaign.

Chase Quarterman (art director) and Shannon Burke (copywriter) for their print campaign.

Cesar Torres (art director) for his logo design.

Matt Goodman and John Rekoumis won the prestigious One Show Bronze Pencil in the College Competition for their television spot. Chase Quarterman, Shannon Burke, Shaun Bruce, Dave Roth and Cesar Torres all received merit for their work in the competition as well. All of the finalists' work will be published in the 2006 One Show awards annual and will be included in the traveling One Show exhibit.

In addition, Quarterman, Burke, and Jayna Olsen were selected as one of ten different teams to present their work for hybridcenter.com in the client pitch competition. They presented to a panel of renowned industry judges, including clients from hybridcenter.org, not to mention a theatre packed with agency professionals and their student peers. "Their presentation was stellar, professional, and featured some excellent research and planning work to back up their finalist campaign" says Thompson.

In addition to the Texas Creative programs' recognition for their fine work and excellent presentation skills, more than 20 Texas students participated in the One Club Portfolio Review as part of the festival. They received rave reviews from the participating agencies, and many have since received job offers as a result of these reviews. Congratulations to Texas Creative for a fantastic spring.
