Three Generations of Scholars at NAES Conference
Amber Parker and Yuvay Meyers, two UT Advertising Department PhD students, presented a paper on their research involving skin tone and consumer racial profiling, which they conducted in conjunction with UT Advertising Department faculty member Dr. Jerome D. Williams. However Dr. Williams received an unexpected surprise when he was able to reunite with one of his mentors from 25 years ago in his PhD Program at the Universality of Colorado (CU).
Dr. Albert Ramirez also was at the conference and attended the session where Amber and Yuvay presented. Dr. Ramirez, who was one Dr. Williams' Social Psychology professors, introduced him to many of the race and ethnic constructs Dr. Williams presently uses in his research, was a member of Dr. Williams' dissertation committee, and was a major influence on his scholarly development. Dr. Ramirize retired several years ago but came out of retirement and currently is back at CU to chair the Ethnic Studies Department.
Amber and Yuvay were making their first academic conference presentation. Their work came out of an Independent Study they had with Dr. Williams. Their presentation was well received and generated a great deal of discussion during the Q&A period.
