UT Professor of Advertising John Leckenby Received the AAA Fellow Award

At the annual American Academy of Advertising (AAA) conference, Professor John Leckenby was given the Fellow of the American Academy of Advertising award. This is the highest award the AAA presents.

The conference this year was held in Reno, Nevada (March 30-April 2), and the award was announced at a luncheon on Saturday, April 1. This was no April Fools Day joke however. "John has been a tireless supporter of the AAA and advertising education," stated UT Advertising Professor Patricia Stout, as she presented the award to Dr. John Leckenby. "He has served as President and Vice President of the Academy, as well as serving on the AAA Publication Committee and editing the AAA Proceedings. John has been a fixture at AAA meetings. In a recent study of the most productive members of the AAA over the past 20 years, John was ranked first in the frequency of individual appearances on the AAA conference program out of over 900 distinct authors," she added."

The first meeting of the American Academy of Advertising occurred in 1958 and only a handful of individuals have been honored with Fellow status since then. It is a great honor to receive the AAA Fellow award, and it is an honor to us, the UT Advertising community, to have Dr. Leckenby in our midst, whether as a colleague or a mentor.

Dr. John Leckenby, Professor and Everett D. Collier Centennial Chair in Communication has been a member of UT Advertising faculty since 1985. Leckenby was Chair of the Department of Advertising from 1985 to 1987. He has served on the Copy Research Council of the Advertising Research Foundation (ARF), and as President of the American Academy of Advertising (AAA). He is currently Director of the Center for Interactive Advertising at The University of Texas at Austin and co-founder and currently co-editor of the Journal of Interactive Advertising.
