What attracted you to the Masters of Advertising at UT?

Initially, the Texas Creative Sequence. Then, the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service and the portfolio program in nonprofit studies. And of course, the city of Austin had me at hello.

What are you up to now that you are in the "real world," and how has UT prepared you for this transition?

I am working in New York City at a nonprofit organization called The Creative Center as a program coordinator. I'm in love with the organization and the work we do of bringing the creative arts (visual, literary, and performing) to people with cancer and chronic illnesses. The University of Texas helped prepare me for my role at The Creative Center because I am able to combine my interests in communication and nonprofit work, just as I did in the graduate program.

Do you have any suggestions for students trying to find a job after graduating?

I would encourage students who want to be in a creative field to not feel tied to down to copy writing and art directing. Both are great, but agency work is not the only avenue those skills are valued.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I'm open to where life takes me, but creativity and service will always be pillars of my work.

Who/What inspires you?

'Never give up' attitudes. And 'go for your dreams' type of folk.

What is your favorite Ad Campaign?

American Cancer Society and the Celebrate More Birthdays campaign.

What's the best place to take first timers in Austin?

The Continental Club on South Congress.

Which teacher is a 'must-take' in the Master's program?

4 words. Account Planning. Dr. Mackert.  Does "Dr." count as a word?
