Meet The Advertising Graduate Council

Ad Grad Council

The University of Texas at Austin is home to the top Master’s in Advertising in the nation. Students who make up the advertising graduate program come from all around the world with a wide variety of academic and professional backgrounds.

The Advertising Graduate Council (AGC) exists to help support the needs of students in the graduate program. This student-run organization works to supplement the educational experience of graduate advertising students by providing opportunities for professional growth, as well as social involvement.

I spoke to the Advertising Graduate Council to get to know them and to find out what their goals are for the program, why they chose UT Austin, their goals for the AGC, and what their favorite memory has been as a graduate student at UT so far.

Elizabeth Mendoza

President
Creative Track

Elizabeth was already an Austin resident when she decided to apply to UT for grad school, noting that the school had great energy. She stated that the Texas Creative program was perfect for what she wanted to do. Her goal is to “help usher in the new cohort to the graduate program and learn about all the opportunities the Advertising program has to offer”. Elizabeth’s favorite memory is when the second-year cohort went to Moody’s Kitchen and Bar after their Media Management final presentations to celebrate the end of their first semester!

Avery Tellam

Vice President/Treasurer
Creative and Immersive Tracks

Avery chose to attend UT because of its #1 ranking, as well as the Texas Creative and Texas Immersive programs. Avery’s goals for the AGC are to “create a welcoming environment for the incoming cohort” and to “help everyone make friends and professional connections.” So far, her favorite memory so far has been tailgating with everyone for football games!

Sarah Nahas

Co-Chief Marketing Officer
Strategy and Thesis Track

Sarah chose UT Austin because its Master’s in Advertising is #1 in the country and she wanted to stay in Texas. Her goal for the AGC is “for both cohorts to communicate and help one another,” as well as for “both cohorts to be able to see what each track looks like” by helping plan agency visits and so much more! Sarah’s favorite memory is “meeting like minded friends with common goals” and “taking advantage of what grad school has to offer us!“

Lauren Cervera

Co-Chief Marketing Officer
Creative Track

Lauren did her undergrad in Los Angeles and decided to apply to get her Master’s at UT, with the hopes of putting her visual communications and design background to use after moving back to Austin to be closer to her family. Her goal for the council was to “create more fun events including professional opportunities with everyone and getting to know the 1st years more to build connections”. After returning to Texas, many of Lauren’s friends moved out of state, so she said that “getting to meet new people and being part of a close knit cohort where we all get together for events outside of school” has been her favorite part of grad school.

Grace Einterz

Social Chair
General Track

Grace chose UT Austin because she wanted to be somewhere warm and part of a competitive program that would set her up for success upon graduating. As social chair, her goals are to “create a welcoming and fun environment where people feel included,” as well as “raise enough funds so the future cohorts can host professional and social events.” Grace’s favorite memory was when a few students in her cohort sang “I Want It That Way” at Moody’s Karaoke night.

Joseph Espinoza

Industry Relations Chair
Strategy and Thesis Track

Joseph had always dreamt of going to UT, but missed out on the opportunity in undergrad. When the opportunity for grad school arose, he grabbed it! His goals are “to be a part of a team that can foster new beginnings and opportunities for other graduate students”. Joseph’s favorite memory is “having met one of the unlikeliest of friends” which has shown him what it “means to be a person, a friend, and a Longhorn”.
