Ashlee Neumann is a Ph.D. student studying Health and Science Communication at the Stan Richards School of Advertising & Public Relations. Her research examines how media and policy influence public understanding of chemicals in consumer products, with a focus on cosmetics, apparel, and home goods. She explores interventions—ranging from educational messaging to regulatory change—that empower individuals to make healthier, more informed choices. Drawing on her background in chemistry and STEM education, she also studies behavioral responses to environmental cues and nature-based experiences as a means to reduce overconsumption. Her current projects explore how social norms shape consumption patterns and how consumers interpret chemical risk messages—such as those related to PFAS and other toxicants—within the broader context of media and policy influence.
