Longhorn Digital Marketing

A new student organization at The University of Texas at Austin, Longhorn Digital Marketing, is providing students with opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive in the dynamic world of digital marketing. Longhorn Digital Marketing (LDM) was created with a mission to help students learn within a fast-paced, ever-evolving industry. The organization seeks to offer students valuable hands-on experience, industry connections, and a chance to build their professional network in the world of digital marketing.

The idea for LDM came from Gia Perry, a Arts and Entertainment Technology sophomore, who was eager to find a student organization that aligned with her interests. “Digital marketing is such a new industry, and I really wanted there to be a way for students to learn and grow with each other,” Gia explained. LDM hopes to foster a sense of community among students passionate about digital marketing frields such as social media content creation and public relations. “I want everyone who joins to be able to find a community of people in the same field. So in the future, professionally, you’ll be able to find internships, network, and make a connection,” said Megan Magruder, a sophomore Public Relations major and the Vice President of LDM.

The organization has adopted an education-focused structure. The majority of meetings feature guest speakers who are professionals in the digital marketing world, offering insights into industry trends and potential career paths. “Our general meeting format is based on education. I hope that members can take away advice from people who are actually in the industry” explained Faith Harris, a Public Relations sophomore and the Vice President of Public Relations for LDM.

For LDM, it isn’t just about attending meetings—it’s also about giving members the chance to take on leadership roles and actively contribute to the organization's growth. The leadership structure includes an executive board, with each executive member being supported by one or two assistants in specific roles, such as Industry Analyst, Media Assistant, and Social Chair.

“Leadership opportunities give people a way to feel more involved and they're contributing by creating industry reports that they’ll give to us every meeting." — Gia Perry

As their second general meeting approaches on November 20, LDM is gearing up for an exciting year ahead. With a founding class of 40 members already in place, Gia and her executive team are excited to continue growing. Whether students are seeking professional connections, or simply a place to learn and collaborate, LDM aims to be a valuable resource for success in the digital marketing landscape.
