Your Guide to Student Groups

The Stan Richards School is home to quite a few organizations geared specifically toward advertising and public relations majors.

Whether you’re looking for a group of friendly faces, or want to strengthen your resume and portfolio, The Stan Richards School is home to quite a few organizations geared specifically toward advertising and public relations majors.

The Public Relations Student Society of America is a national organization with chapters around the country, including here at the University of Texas at Austin, which is home to one of the largest groups. Joining PRSSA is a great way to connect with professionals in the industry and learn about the current state of public relations. So whether you’re a freshman or senior, there are useful resources within the club such as mentorship programs and resume workshops.

Similarly, the Texas Advertising Group, or TAG, is an organization geared toward connecting students with folks in the advertising industry. TAG brings in weekly guests to talk about current events and provide advice for those who wish to learn more about where an advertising degree can take them. They also offer members a chance to travel to bustling cities like Chicago and Dallas, where major agencies call home, in order to tour facilities they may one day work in.

Putting theory into practice, Texas Tower Communications allows students to work in an agency setting. Texas Tower Communications is a student-run organization that helps student groups and nonprofits build a social media presence and identity and provides local media relations services. Members will get to experience handling real accounts and build a solid set of writing samples.

Lastly, Diversity in Advertising and Public Relations, or DA&PR for short, is a student-run professional development organization at the University of Texas Austin that focuses and celebrates diversity in the advertising and PR sphere to empower underrepresented talent.
