Behind the Books
As she celebrates her 10-year anniversary at the University of Texas, Sid Carrizales is one of the many staff members in Moody College’s Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations whose behind-the-scenes work helps shape student success. She is the Senior Administrative Associate and has been recognized for her service, having won the 2021 Staff Appreciation Award.
Carrizales did not begin her career at UT, but it is where she has found her professional home. An Austin native, she spent most of her career in the Del Valle and Austin ISD school districts. There, she honed the accounting and bookkeeping skills that opened the door to a career at the Forty Acres.
Carrizales made the transition in 2016 after her daughters left for college when a business position opened at UT that matched her bookkeeping expertise. She was drawn by the university's reputation, the opportunities it offered, and the strong staff benefits. Carrizales made the leap and recalls it as one of her best moves ever.
In her decade at UT, Carrizales has seen remarkable changes at Moody. She arrived the same year the Moody Bridge was inaugurated. She has watched enrollment grow across the university and seen The LAB be built. She has also had a front-row seat to change and innovate at Moody. Amid these changes, one thing has remained consistent: her year-round love for the students.
As a staff member, she continues her work year-round. It continues long after finals end and summer begins. She works behind the scenes to help ensure that students have their standout moments. She helps coordinate their travel to and from competitions. Often, students return in triumph with university awards.
Nearly ten years in, her advice still reflects the grounded appreciation that brought her to UT.
"Absorb and enjoy as you go," she said. "UT is a great environment, and that's what keeps me here."
