Leading the Way at TXADPR
As we welcome a vast variety of backgrounds from all over the globe, you are just as likely to run into fellow students from your own backyard. Amanda, Bella, and Ana didn’t realize until recently just how small a world it can be. The revelation came in a team meeting where one observation led to another, resulting in said revelation.
All three grew up in The Valley and went on to attend Texas A&M University around relatively the same time period. They very well could’ve passed each other on the street or studied in the same coffee shops and never would have known their future teammates were just next door. It wasn’t until they embarked on their graduate journeys here at the University of Texas that they found each other. All three were accepted into the Masters in Advertising program and have taken multiple courses together, honing their skills and preparing themselves for their future careers. Their coursework and professional experiences pushed the three to each take the initiative to become the team leaders of the TXADPR social channels.
Leading creatives is never easy, so Amanda shared her own insight on the process,
“When I’m not in school, I’m a social media content coordinator at a local agency here in Austin, so signing up for content lead in ADV 369 felt like the perfect fit. I saw it as a chance to take what I’ve learned professionally and apply it in a more collaborative, hands-on academic setting. Being a leader in anything can be challenging at times, but it’s given me a greater appreciation for the process behind making great content come to life.
Managing the analytics of multiple platforms takes an army; here’s what Bella had to say about rising to the challenge,
“I thought that this experience would test my skills I learned this past summer as an analyst intern. I like to think I’m a great listener, so why not improve my social listening skills too! I also trust my fellow team of analysts to find unique insights and build our skillset together.”
When asked what drew her towards leading content management, Ana stated,
“I have always described myself as someone who is both left- and right-brained. I’ve always been both irrationally analytical while wildly creative. I find content/community management mixes both! I get to throw out a wide variety of ideas to then curate them to an audience in order to connect. It’s both rewarding and very very fun!”
These three are an example of how, no matter where you end up, you can always find common ground with your fellow peers. They may have missed each other on the first steps of their academic journeys, though the University of Texas is where they came together in the end. We are so fortunate to have these three talented leaders pave the way this semester, and we look forward to following their future careers as well.
