Abby Hendricks (M.A., The University of Texas at Austin) is a Ph.D. student in the Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations in the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. Abby received her Bachelor of Science in Communication and Journalism from Texas A&M University in 2017 and her Master of Arts in Advertising from The University of Texas at Austin in 2020. Currently, Abby is in her third year of the doctoral program, where she works as a teaching assistant and researcher. Her research interests include motivations for social media consumption and engagement and the subsequent psychological effects that follow. Her current research examines the motivational construct of upward social comparison to social media consumption and engagement and the subsequent effects (both positive and negative) on psychological well-being.
