With registration coming soon around, students are scrambling around trying to get a gist of their professors and what classes are all about. We, here at TXADPR, are here to help make that task just a bit less daunting. For this week's faculty highlight, we are recognizing Associate Professor of Media Analytics, Dr. Laura F. Bright. International hip-hop duo Salt-N-Pepa took center stage at the LBJ Lawn and thrilled Texas fans from far and wide before the Longhorns took on Rice on September 18. The show was part of the pregame concert series known as Longhorn City Limits—offering entertainment and festivities for Longhorn fans before each home game. 

To finish celebrating Hispanic heritage month, TXADPR interviewed graduate student, Mario Carmona. 

“I am a first-generation Mexican American from Baytown, TX. I completed my bachelor's degree at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, and I am currently an advertising graduate student at UT's School of Advertising and PR.”

The advertising world has lost one of its greatest this past month. The award-winning copywriter and creative director, Cliff Freeman, has passed away at his home in Manhattan. He was 80 years old. According to his wife, Susan Freeman, the cause of death was due to pneumonia. Throughout the years, Freeman’s sense of humor has been crucial in helping brands stand out in very competitive markets.

As The Moody College of Communication has promoted significantly throughout the past month, this Fall, the AD&PR school welcomed a new director, Dr. Natalie Tindall. Before becoming a member of the Longhorn family, Dr. Tindall served in various leadership roles in academia. She was the chair of the Department of Communication and Media at Lamar University, a co-graduate director at Georgia State University in Atlanta, and faculty at the University of Oklahoma. In addition to leadership roles at prior institutions, Dr.

The University of Texas at Austin promotes international programs during the academic year and Professor Octavio Kano-Galvan has had the opportunity to participate in the Texas Global Virtual Exchange (GVE) initiative. Texas Global “advances UT’s academic mission by leading, coordinating, and supporting the university’s international engagement efforts and providing opportunities for students and faculty to engage with their peers around the world”.

Meet Alison Gibson, an Olympian and current Advertising Master’s student! An Austinite and former UT undergraduate, Alison Gibson shares her experience at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, how she got into the field of Advertising, and the biggest lesson she learned competing in the Olympics.

On July 13, 2020, the Washington Football team decided to retire their Redskins logo and team name after 88 years. The final decision was made when the team issued a statement stating that the team would undergo a review of their past name due to recent controversial events. Following their decision, the team announced that they would go by “Washington Football Team” until they formally decide on a new name and logo.

As the new school year kicks off, class projects are beginning to come in full swing. This semester’s Integrated Communication for Nonprofit Organizations class gets the privilege of working with Aba Blankson, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for the NAACP.
